New poetry collection!

Accidents

Hello friends,

This month, I'm very pleased to announce two new books.
  • My new poetry collection, Accidents (Signature Editions). It's been fourteen years since my last poetry collection. To read a little about how this collection came to be, check out the recent feature on All Lit Up: Poetry in Motion. View here.
  • See the Accidents book trailer here.
  • The Italian translation of my novel, Tracing Iris, has just been published in Italy as Alla Ricerca di Iris (Les Flaneurs Edizioni) translated by Margherita Piva. I'm looking forward to an Italian tour in September/October.
More information for both these books is available if you click on the book cover.

Upcoming Event - Short Story Workshop for Beginners
Saturday June 25, 2022 at 1:00 pm PDT

On Zoom as part of Wordstorm Festival
Tickets available here: https://www.wordstorm.ca/events/creating-short-stories

From oral histories to Facebook posts, stories are what define us, yet, storytelling often presents as, “I have a great idea for a story, but I don’t know where to start.”

If you find yourself facing that 'where do I begin' dilemma, this workshop, lead by acclaimed writer, Genni Gunn, is just what you've been seeking to get you started toward moving your awesome ideas toward well-crafted story concepts.

Designed to help you take an idea and learn how to express and compress it into a vivid short story, participants will explore the basic elements of fiction including setting, characters, plot, and theme. Writing techniques, such as creating a good beginning, choosing a verb tense, dialogue, pacing, and maintaining conflict wil also be covered. Brief examples of these elements will be presented and examined, then participants will be encouraged to experiment through exercises leading toward formulating a short story. There will also be an opportunity to share some of this writing with other participants.
